DFW Founders Plaza Airport Observation Area

DFW Founders Plaza Airport Observation Area

If you like watching airplanes take off and land – and let’s be honest, who doesn’t? – then the DFW Founders Plaza Airport Observation Area is a site you won’t want to miss.

PROS

  • FREE! An inexpensive activity for the whole family
  • A great educational opportunity
  • Picnic tables available
  • Lots of grassy space if you want to set out a folding chair or blanket

CONS

  • This is a pretty popular place and is usually quite crowded

Not to be confused with Dealey Plaza, DFW Founders Plaza is an observation area for plane spotting located just outside DFW Airport in Grapevine, Texas. It includes a pretty good size parking lot, a few picnic tables, a fountain in the form of an airplane and two fire trucks, the official Aviation Beacon Tower for DFW airport and a speaker so you can hear the actual control-tower transmissions! It also has a large amount of open grass space to allow for additional seating or standing. Best of all, this incredibly entertaining place is free to get in!

Where It’s At

The Observation Area is located just outside of the DFW airport, on Airfield Drive in Grapevine Texas.

Probably Not a Destination

Unless you are the type of person who could spend hours watching the planes (and, hey, no judgment if you are!), I would call this a good place to visit when you’re in the area. I’d liken it to a Roadside Attraction and classify it as On-The-Way.
